How To Wear The Blazer
(All Year Round.)

By Fleur Wood

"With the perfect blazer, anything is possible."
— Rashida Jones

The Summary

The days of the blazer worn only for work are long gone.

A well-cut blazer is a timeless piece that will earn its keep in any wardrobe. Throw it on over all black, with dresses, with your jeans and a white t-shirt, or with neutrals for cool evenings in the warmer months.

The Style

Make room for: The Black Blazer.

The original wardrobe staple, the black blazer is the piece that can give you the confidence you need to tackle the day ahead.

It was the first blazer in my collection and my wardrobe simply wouldn’t work without one. It remains my go-to piece when I am in a rush or having trouble putting an outfit together. In fact, it’s a key piece in my uniform dressing.

No matter the weather or the destination, I live by the motto ‘When in doubt, throw on a blazer.’

How To Wear The Blazer
Coat slinging: Here I have my Georgia Alice Jimmy Jacket slung around my shoulder for a nonchalant look. Paired back with the Boyish Billie Jean and Viktoria & Woods Clarke tank.

Along with a heel, a blazer will instantly elevate your look. It’s also very handy to have one on the back of your chair at work for those last-minute meetings – whether it is in person or via Zoom, WFH.

I suggest starting with a classic cut in either black, tan or cream, so you’re able to wear it with the majority of your wardrobe.

The signature Anna Quan Sienna Jacket is our top pick for a classic blazer in both the black and sand colourway. Being a longline style, the black can be worn as a dress (with a slip underneath) or over bike shorts such as the Nagnata Triad Biker. The sand colourway would be perfect over a classic white shirt and jeans.

Make room for: The Check Blazer

You’ve no doubt heard a lot about the capsule wardrobe as a hot topic lately – and for good reason. A check blazer is now considered to be a key piece for one and we tend to agree.

A classic neutral check or black and white check will never date. It’s a great way to break up all black and is jeans and white t-shirt’s best friend. Whichever you favour, they’re both effortless outfits you will always feel good in.

We think The Frame 70’s Blazer is the perfect transeasonal check blazer. Wear it with a black dress, a leather or linen pant or the trusty jeans and white shirt combo for a polished look.

Make room for: The Coloured Blazer

A blazer in a solid colour is a great statement piece and depending on the colourway it can certainly act as the ‘hero’ piece of your outfit.

Think big apple red or even hot pink for a show stopping yet elegant look. The Frame Darted Blazer in Poppy red is our choice.

Want something a little more toned down? Olive green or rust are great options. Like the Nanushka Honor Blazer in rust, the perfect addition to your blazer collection.

The toned down colours allow you to wear the blazer with more in your wardrobe and you won’t get over it as you might a more vibrant colour.

Make room for: The Linen Blazer

With the Summer months approaching in Australia, lightweight fabrics such as organic cotton and linen are the perfect choice. And if you are thinking of heading down the summer suit pathway – Summer 2020’s biggest trend – then this will tick the summer blazer off your list. We adore the Marle Como Linen Jacket in grey.

A friend of mine once told me, ‘All you need is your laptop and a navy blazer, and you can work from anywhere in the world’.

The world may be off limits (for now) but we stand by it! Even at home, the blazer remains one of the most reliable and hardest working pieces in your wardrobe.
