The Stylist’s Formula To Your Spring Capsule Wardrobe.

10 pieces, a season of endless outfits…
The Summary
Transitioning from winter to spring can be a tad overwhelming. Not only do you need to grapple with the fact you’ll have to start baring your legs again (and maybe stock up on gradual tan!) but the planning of outfits for a season of unpredictable weather can be a tricky one - even if you’re a religious app checker like us. A capsule wardrobe makes it easier. Including much-loved pieces you already own from your winter and summer wardrobe and some key layering pieces added to the mix, read on to find out our stylist formula to the perfect spring wardrobe.
The Sustainability
Investing in versatile, easy to layer items are important to think about when planning what you need to buy. And don’t forget the fabric - natural or recycled fibres that will breathe, wear well and are better for the environment make all the difference. Invest is the key word here too. Buy better quality and you won’t have to replace them year after year, minimising waste and maximising cost per wear.

The Styling
1. The Shirt A shirt can be worn in so many ways and is a great piece to layer. The classic white is always a good idea. The Esse Layered shirt in white is made from 100% organic cotton with contrasting black buttons. Pair it back with jeans and a blazer or trench for a go-to ensemble.
2. The Cashmere jumper
A cashmere jumper is the best investment you can make - and the Esse V Split Sweater is our current pick. A classic style and colour, it looks stunning with a bra peeking out or layered over a shirt thanks to the V split feature. Complete the look with the Esse Gathered Pant or the RE/DONE 70’s Stove Pipe in vintage white.
3. The Jean
Forget the trends and pick a jean style that best suits you. And yes, as a big part of the modern woman’s wardrobe it’s more than ok to have more than one pair! We think indigo, black and cream in your wardrobe make for so many outfit choices.
4. The Skirt
Every wardrobe needs a black skirt and spring is its time to shine! Pair with a skivvy or knit for a failsafe work outfit or experiment with the popular casualising tailoring trend. Wear with a t-shirt and sneakers or cami and sandals to nail the style. We love the Wynn Hamlyn Bella Skirt for combining a classic high-waist silhouette with a sexy side split.
5. The Statement Knit
Whether oversized or to add a pop colour, a statement knit is always a good idea. You can dress down a slip dress, wear with your jeans or pair back with a trouser. It’s that time of year when it’s still cool so knitwear is essential. The Wynn Hamlyn Loop Moss Stitch Cardi is a striking azure blue and can be worn so many ways, while the Unisex Moss Stitch Sweater’s sophisticated simplicity makes it an instant classic.
6. The White Tee
A capsule wardrobe simply cannot function without the white t-shirt and we are well aware that the quest for the perfect one seems to be ongoing! But we have found two that we think are close to perfection: the Kowtow White tee made from 100% organic cotton jersey with a rib crew neck, and the Josh & Thom White Tee , also made from 100% organic cotton but with a slightly more relaxed fit.
7. The ‘Dressy’ top
Forever in style, ‘dressy’ tops allow you to instantly put outfits together. Wear them with jeans, trousers, skirts and add a heel for a dressier look with what you already own. Our favourites include the Matin Pintuck top, Esse Collected Blouse in chocolate, Wynn Hamlyn Mock Rib Neck Polo and Frame Rib Henley Sweater. Polished, stylish and with just the right amount of intrigue, they hold their own as well as acting as a brilliant base for bolder accessories.
8. The Trouser
The trouser is now a staple for all occasions, work and play. Style back with a t -shirt and trench to achieve the perfect casual tailored look. The Esse Gathered Pant nails slinky and stylish while the Wynn Hamlyn Partner Trouser and Esse Tailored Trouser tick all the modern tailored boxes in straw and cream. For a high-rise flare in sleek but comfortable sustainable cotton look no further than the Frame Le High Flare Trouser.
9.The Shirt Dress
Consider this a key pick for spring. A classic piece that you can wear layered under a jacket, open over jeans or by itself with a sandal, it’s flattering and stylish - and every spring wardrobe should have at least one. We love the Frame Montauk Dress ’s fresh take on the utility shirt dress in lightwear cotton, the oversized styling of the Josh & Thom Linen Dress and the silky holiday vibes of the Matin Button Down Silk Dress .
10. The Trench
The classic wardrobe staple you’ll wear with everything, all year round. Our favourite style for a spring jacket, wear over a t-shirt, button up shirt or knit. A style like the Esse Trench will never date and instantly elevate any outfit. What are the hardest working pieces in your spring wardrobe? Tell us your styling tips below.
